Joshua Wigley is an outstanding example of where dedication, academic excellence and innovation can lead. A graduate of Denmark Senior High School in 2015, Joshua was awarded the school's prestigious DUX Award as the highest-achieving student on an ATAR pathway, reflecting the academic excellence and determination that would continue to shape his future success.
After leaving Denmark SHS, Joshua completed a double degree in Physics and Electronic & Communications Engineering at Curtin University, developing the technical expertise that would become the foundation of his career in advanced technology, engineering and manufacturing.
Following positions in engineering and artificial intelligence consulting with Deloitte Australia, Joshua founded Hyperion Systems, a Perth-based advanced manufacturing company focused on large-format 3D printing, robotics and deployable manufacturing technologies.
Under his leadership, Hyperion Systems has grown into one of Western Australia's most exciting deep-tech companies, developing innovative manufacturing solutions including its "Factory-in-a-Box" technology. The company is helping transform how critical infrastructure, marine, defence and industrial components are produced, reducing production times from months to days while embracing sustainable manufacturing practices.
Joshua's achievements have attracted national recognition. He was named in the Forbes Australia 30 Under 30 list for Technology and recognised in the Business News 40 Under 40 Awards. Hyperion Systems is a finalist for WA Innovator of the Year for its TitanCell 'Factory-in-a-Box' technology, and Joshua himself is a finalist for WA Young Australian of the Year.
Beyond his own achievements, Joshua has remained committed to creating opportunities for others. As Hyperion Systems has expanded, the company has provided valuable employment and career pathways for emerging engineers, technicians and innovators, including several former Denmark SHS students.
Among those helping to drive Hyperion's success are fellow Denmark SHS graduates Cooper Gleeson, who works as a Robotics Engineer, Yagan Burns, the company's Workshop Manager, and Tenzin Carson, who contributes as Marketing Assistant. Together, these former Denmark SHS students are playing an important role in building advanced manufacturing capability in Western Australia while demonstrating the talent that can emerge from regional communities.
Joshua's journey from Denmark SHS DUX in 2015 to founder and CEO of an internationally recognised advanced manufacturing company shows what is possible when talent, hard work and opportunity come together.
For students inspired by Joshua's story, Denmark Senior High School offers a wide range of pathways to help young people develop the skills needed for the careers of tomorrow. In 2027, the school will pioneer its new Year 7 Launch Program, designed to develop students' capabilities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through innovative, future-focused learning experiences.
Students interested in engineering, technology and advanced manufacturing can access a range of vocational and academic pathways, including:
- TAFE and vocational training opportunities in areas such as Electrotechnology, Robotics, and Building & Construction
- High-level ATAR courses including Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics Methods and Mathematics Specialist
- Opportunities to develop problem-solving, design thinking, innovation and technical skills that align with future industry needs
- Pathways into university, apprenticeships, traineeships and emerging technology industries
Joshua's success demonstrates that students from a regional school can go on to achieve national recognition and create industries of the future. At Denmark SHS, we are proud to provide the opportunities, programs and support that help students discover their passions and pursue ambitious goals.
"Growing up in Denmark taught me that you don't need to be in a big city to build something big. My advice is to back yourself, take the hard subjects, and don't be afraid to start before you feel ready. The skills you build in classrooms in Denmark can take you anywhere, including starting a company that builds the factories of the future."
